Season 1892/93

F = Friendly   FAC Q1 = F.A. Cup Qualifying Round 1      LCC R1 = Luton Charity Cup Round 1.  The club decided not to enter the Kettering Charity Cup – it was thought better to play “Ordinary” (Friendly) games and receive gate money than play mediocre teams for hardly any money.

Bold is a home game.

*I have given this goal to J.C. Lomax – the description is that a cross came in and Lomax and the brothers Whitby rushed it through.  As J.C. Lomax is the first named I have awarded him the goal.

**Friendly to raise money for the Cricket Club and not included in the Club statistics

Great strides were made this season, Polytechnic aside.  Julian had added leadership and strength to the midfield while Galbraith (the Govan goal-getter) added 30 goals.  Only a few goals missing from the lists so we have a remarkably complete season.

The Club record was –

Played 33,  Won 20,  Lost 9,  drew 4,  Goals for 105,  Goals against 55.

The known goal scorers are  – Galbraith – 29 (plus 1 against Rostron Bourke’s XI);  Allen – 20;  H. Whitby – 14;  Cheshire – 7;  Brown – 6;  F. Whitby – 5;  Julian, Sanders – 4;  Taylor – 3;  J.C. Lomax, Oclee, Watkins, Groom – 2; McKenzie, Wilson, Barbour – 1.

The Reserves had a good season too.  Their record was –

Played 25,  W 21,  L 3,  D 1,  Goals for 140,  Goals against 26.  The losses were Millwall 6-2 and 2 0 and to Hitchin 4 1.
